Why Travertine? The natural stone that enhances every home.
Anyone who has held a piece of travertine in their hands immediately understands the difference from industrially manufactured ceramics. The surface is alive—small pores, fine grains, warm earth tones that change depending on the light. No two pieces are alike.
What exactly is Travertine?
Travertine is a natural stone formed over millennia by the deposition of lime in hot springs. The Romans already used it for their buildings—the Colosseum in Rome is largely built of travertine. Today, it is mainly quarried in Turkey, Italy, and Iran.
What makes it so interesting for home accessories: It combines robustness with a soft, almost velvety feel. The natural pores give each piece an unmistakable texture.
Why we love Travertine
For us at Auroby, travertine represents exactly what we look for in a home:
- Authenticity – Every piece is unique with its own history
- Warmth – The natural beige and sand tones instantly bring calm to a room
- Durability – Travertine lasts for generations without losing its character
- Versatility – Whether as a candle holder, tray, or vase – it fits into any interior
Care: Less is more
Travertine is easier to care for than you might think. A soft, slightly damp cloth is sufficient for regular cleaning. Important: Do not use acidic cleaners—vinegar or citric acid can damage the surface. If necessary, a special stone sealant can be applied to make the stone even more resistant.
Small traces of patina that develop over time? They are part of it. They make each piece even more individual.
Travertine in the room
A single travertine candle holder on a simple wooden shelf. A travertine tray on the coffee table, holding a candle and some dried grasses. These are the small accents that transform a room—without having to redecorate everything.
Travertine brings the tranquility of nature into the home. Not loud, not intrusive—but you immediately feel the difference.
Our travertine pieces are available in limited editions. Each piece has been hand-selected—because we believe that genuine materials make all the difference.
